Dear CTPU members,
We are pleased to announce a Journal club by Stephen Angus.
* Title: Moduli stabilisation and non-maximally-symmetric 4d vacua in heterotic string theory
* Speaker: Stephen Angus (IBS-CTPU)
* Date: 14:00-15:00 PM, February 12
* Abstract: String compactifications with non-zero NS-NS flux are mirror-dual to manifolds that have an SU(3) structure, but are not necessarily Calabi-Yau. This enables the possibility of moduli stabilisation in heterotic string theory. The heterotic Calabi-Yau case can also be realised if the requirement of maximally symmetric 4d spacetime is relaxed --- I will discuss how this can lead to 1/2-BPS domain wall solutions in 4d, and I will introduce possible extensions to cosmic strings and black holes.
